This year I read an incredibly inspiring book called The 12 Week Year by Brian Moran. This book has completely changed the way I think about goal setting and planning. 

The basis of the book is all about getting a clear vision about your life goals. Not just a hazy, wouldn’t-it-be-nice idea – a solidly, clear vision of what you want your life to look like. Then making a plan to achieve it.

I didn’t have a clear direction until I read this book and really focused on what it was that I wanted. Now I’m working toward it little by little. Each and every day.

One thing I loved about Moran’s process is that he encourages you to let go of the calendar year. Make a plan and start on Monday. Then keep killing it for 12 weeks straight.

It’s no surprise, then, that many fitness programs are also based on a 12 week or 90 day cycle. One of my favorites is Jillian Michael’s Body Revolution. If you like to workout at home, this is a fabulous program. I started with all of the modifications and easier moves. By week 8 I could see and feel a huge difference in my body. Watch out for those one arm push ups, though!!!

    This new food journal looks amazing. Just reading everything about it gets me motivated to do what I need to do and make changes in my life for my health and weight. It looks motivational and has a lot of new ideas!

    This planner sounds like a great idea. I will definitely have to look for that book too. What I do to reward myself once I meet a goal is that I keep a list of ‘pamper’ ideas like going to a movie I want to see, buying a new clothing item, a new scented candle, or having an at home ‘spa’ day, etc., when I make a goal I choose what the reward will be ahead of time (based on the difficulty of the goal) off of the list and when I meet it I don’t feel guilty about it because I’ve earned it!
